Geoff Bailey
Dr. Geoff Bailey is a Past President for NCLCA and served as Vice President, President, and Immediate Past President (2018-2020). He earned the NCLCA Certified Learning Center Professional (Level 4) lifetime achievement in 2016 and has served on the Frank Christ Outstanding Learning Center Award Committee, President’s Outstanding Learning Center Award Committee, Innovative Use of Technology Award Committee, NCLCA/LSCHE Website Award Committee, and Conference Social Committee. He has worked in learning centers for the last 21 years of his nearly 30-year career in higher education.
Since 2014, Geoff has served as the Executive Director of REACH (Resources for Academic Achievement) and Testing Services at the University of Louisville. He received a BS degree in Sports Medicine from Guilford College, and both his MS in Counselor Education and PhD in Higher Education Administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Geoff’s commitment to a servant leadership philosophy is evidenced in both his extensive institutional service and commitment to professional organizations. Additionally, Geoff serves as an adjunct faculty member for the College of Education at the University of Louisville where he teaches graduate level coursework for both the College Student Personnel and Higher Education Administration programs, as well as serving on doctoral comprehensive exam review and dissertation committees. His research interests include the impact of learning centers on student success, persistence and retention efforts, assessment, and academic self-efficacy.
Michael Frizell
Michael Frizell is the current president of the National College Learning Center Association. As the first to be elected twice, he served as Immediate Past President, President, and Vice President from 2016 to 2019 after a stint as Corresponding Secretary from 2011 to 2012. He was also the first chair of the Immediate Past- resident’s Council from 2018 to 2020. Michael earned NCLCA’s Certified Learning Center Professional (Level 4) lifetime achievement designation in 2012. Since 2012, Michael has served as the editor of The Learning AssistanceReview, NCLCA’s peer-reviewed journal. TLAR seeks to foster communication among higher education learning center professionals by publishing two issues a year. During the COVID-19 crisis in 2020, he published a collection of essays, Rising to the Challenge: Navigating COVID-19 as Higher Education Learning Center Leaders, describing how learning center leaders reacted to campus-wide shutdowns.
Michael is the Director of Student Learning Services at Missouri State University, where he serves as co-director of the Bear CLAW (Center for Learning and Writing). Additionally, Michael serves as an adjunct faculty member for the Theatre & Dance Department and teaches a capstone course in writing for the Honors College. Michael’s commitment to a servant-leadership philosophy is evidenced in his extensive institutional service and commitment to professional organizations for the past 22 years. His creative work for TidalWave comics consists of creating graphic novels about famous musicians, athletes, politicians, and actors while writing several fiction titles.
Yeşim Çapa Aydın
Yeşim Çapa Aydın, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Educational Sciences and director of the Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching (ODTÜ ÖGEM) in Middle East Technical University. She received her doctorate in quantitative research, measurement, and evaluation in education from The Ohio State University. She has 16 years of professional experience as a faculty member in addition to three years of experience as a researcher in the Research, Evaluation, and Data Analysis Consultation Service at The Ohio State. She has been involved in 29 research projects and published more than 30 scientific articles. Her research interests are assessment and feedback in higher education, faculty development, formative assessment, performance evaluation, and assessment of psychological constructs. She currently works in three European Union-funded projects, one of which is on remote assessment in higher education. Her major responsibilities in ODTÜ ÖGEM include directing operations of the campus-wide Center, developing and implementing research-driven educational programs for faculty, teaching assistants, and students at the university, and giving individual consultation to faculty. She has also conducted several workshops on various assessment-related issues for faculty in her institution and other higher education institutions in Turkey.
Serpil Tekir
Serpil Tekir, PhD., is an EFL instructor in the Department of Basic English and the Coordiator of the DBE Learning Center Project in Middle East Technical University. She received her PhD degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Middle East Technical University. She was awarded with the TUBITAK Post Doctoral Research Fellowship between 2018-2019. She worked as a visiting research scholar in the University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Education, Teacher Education Center, and for her post doctoral research, she conducted a cross cultural comparative analysis of the policy and implementation of the New Teacher Induction Programs used in Turkey and the USA. Her research interests include teacher education, teacher induction, disadvantaged learners and support services offered in higher education.
